Missions (Projects)

Missions are the heart of Kite. They're your big ideas, your ambitious projects, the kites you want to fly. Every great accomplishment starts with a mission.

A 3-minute overview of how Missions work in Kite

What is a Mission?

A Mission is Kite's version of a project. It's a focused workspace where your team collaborates to achieve a specific goal. Think of it as launching a kite—you need the right conditions, the right team, and a clear vision of where you want it to go.

Real-World Example

"Launch New Mobile App" could be a Mission with Checkpoints like "Design UI", "Build Backend", and "Beta Testing". Each Checkpoint has Objectives (tasks) that team members complete to move the project forward.

Key Components of a Mission

Mission Brief

A clear description of what you're building, why it matters, and what success looks like

Checkpoints

Major milestones that break your mission into manageable phases

Team Members

The crew working on this mission with clear roles and permissions

Team Chat

Real-time messaging to keep everyone aligned and informed

Creating Your First Mission

Starting a new Mission in Kite is simple. Here's how to do it:

1

Click 'New Mission'

From your dashboard, click the 'New Mission' button in the top right

2

Name Your Mission

Give it a clear, descriptive name that everyone understands

3

Write the Brief

Explain what you're building and why. Be clear and concise.

4

Add Team Members

Invite the people who'll work on this mission

5

Create Checkpoints

Break the mission into major phases or milestones

6

Launch!

Hit create and start working. You can always refine as you go.

Mission Settings & Options

Every mission can be customized to fit your team's workflow:

  • Visibility: Control who can see and access your mission
  • Due Dates: Set deadlines to keep the mission on track
  • Status: Active, On Hold, Completed, or Archived
  • Notifications: Choose how team members are notified of updates
  • Custom Fields: Add budget tracking, client names, or any metadata you need

Best Practices

✅ Do

  • • Keep mission names clear and specific
  • • Write a detailed brief that answers "what" and "why"
  • • Invite everyone who needs to be involved from the start
  • • Update mission status regularly
  • • Celebrate when you complete a mission!

❌ Don't

  • • Create missions that are too broad ("Make things better")
  • • Leave the brief empty or vague
  • • Forget to add team members who need access
  • • Let missions stay "On Hold" indefinitely—archive or activate them
